Are you wrecking your mind and attitude with something many of us don’t recognize?.
Roll out of bed clear mind. Go to the restroom, head to brew your coffee/tea. Pick up your phone, head to Facebook. Ugh… look at her there she is again posting her perfect little life. Oh nice…. they are headed to an event. I should be going also, but timing just isn’t right yet. Another piece on human trafficking. The latest on what’s wrong with our country and leaders. Perfect finally found a video on someone filming his roommate, while drunk.
Wow, now that I am jealous of a couple people, slightly irritated, and have a lower IQ, I decide to move on with the day.
Sound familiar. What if you had just bi-passed checking your phone altogether. A better attitude? More productive day?
Everything I have read listened to or many people I think are extraordinary leaders are talking about cutting “Social Media” out, at least to some extent. It’s not easy I have been working on it for about a week now. My eyes have been dramatically opened, but still catch myself reach for the phone. I don’t realize what I’m doing until I’ve scrolled about eight posts and feel some sort of non-constructive emotions.
If your ready to cut it out of your daily routine here are some things that have helped me.
First, get a real alarm clock… yes they still make them.
This allows you to place your phone in another room to charge after dinner. After dinner has been very important for me. Now you can spend the evening with the ones that matter. Read to your children, talk to your spouse, get time to build a relationship that social media is taking away. You will be amazed at how dramatically your sleep will change when you don’t have screen time close to bed.
Now when you wake up in the morning, you have a reminder before giving to temptation that your morning really will be better off without checking Facebook. Allowing, you to be with your own thoughts for the most crucial part of the day. Once again, opening a window to communicate with those around you.
If you work from home or a homemaker, like myself. Get on your lap/desktop to perform any activities needed.
I have made a new goal for myself this week… Not to get on any type of social media before noon.
